This Sunday Kennedy celebrated her 9th birthday. We were so happy we got to celebrate with her today! We enjoyed delicious cupcakes, listened to a story read by her mom, and heard about how she celebrated at home. Happy Birthday Kennedy!
We are half way through the novel Stone Fox, and it is getting really suspenseful! We are focusing on story elements, but also working on responding to the text in writing and using context clues to discover the meanings of unknown words. Ask us about the word Samoyed!
Last week we began a unit on customary measurement. We are working on converting measurements between feet, yards, and miles. Below is the conversion chart we used in class today.
Students are being asked to solve problems such as 18 ft. = ____ yards. To do so we are using repeated addition (or multiplication). For example: we know there are 3 feet in 1 yard. Since I would have to add 3 six times to get 18 (3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 = 18 or 3 x 6 = 18) I know that 18 ft. must be the same as 6 yards. This would be a great skill to work on at home!
Follow our class as we learn and grow in third grade.
